 The use of chemical weapons during the Vietnam War was so large that people generations removed are still being affected. Dioxin is a toxin used by American forces during the Vietnam War to defoliate the forest canopies in hopes to expose North Vietnamese forces. Today Dioxin is still used as a household herbicide (also known as 2-4-D). A resident of the Vietnam Friendship Village, Nu (21), was born blind and deaf with autism. Nu has been living at the VFV for most of her life. Her family is unable to care for her specific needs. (2013)

Lavash retired from a career as a heavy construction welder in Northern California after a work accident left him with a severely injured leg and foot. At 58 years-old he set out on a life long goal to sail the world. (2014) In May 2015 Joe passed away from an accident while mountain biking. He was home in California.

After graduating from the Horological Institute of America as a junior watch repairman in 1941 Yamaguchi became 1 of  33,000 Japanese-Americans to serve in World War II.  Serving as a Technical Sergeant in the 442nd regiment, an all Japanese-American combat team. For its size the 442nd is the most decorated regiment in American military history. Frank passed away at the age of 91 in 2013.

Most of the rosewood is illegally harvested from forests in Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and as far away as Myanmar. A large portion of completed work is sent to China where it enters a larger market.  The use of chemical weapons during the Vietnam War was so large that people generations removed are still being affected. Dioxin is a toxin used by American forces during the Vietnam War to defoliate the forest canopies in hopes to expose North Vietnamese forces. Today Dioxin is still used as a household herbicide (also known as 2-4-D). A resident of the Vietnam Friendship Village, Nu (21), was born blind and deaf with autism. Nu has been living at the VFV for most of her life. Her family is unable to care for her specific needs. (2013)
 Joe Lavash, Vava’u Island Group in Northern Tonga. Lavash retired from a career as a heavy construction welder in Northern California after a work accident left him with a severely injured leg and foot. At 58 years-old he set out on a life long goal to sail the world. (2014) In May 2015 Joe passed away from an accident while mountain biking. He was home in California.

 Frank Kura Yamaguchi at his family’s pawn shop in Moab, Utah (2011). After graduating from the Horological Institute of America as a junior watch repairman in 1941 Yamaguchi became 1 of  33,000 Japanese-Americans to serve in World War II.  Serving as a Technical Sergeant in the 442nd regiment, an all Japanese-American combat team. For its size the 442nd is the most decorated regiment in American military history. Frank passed away at the age of 91 in 2013.

 Miaho, a rosewood dealer, sits amidst smoke from a small fire in his inventory warehouse. In the outskirts of Hanoi, there is a group of small village boroughs that specialize in the manufacturing and selling of rosewood sculpture and furniture. Most of the rosewood is illegally harvested from forests in Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and as far away as Myanmar. A large portion of completed work is sent to China where it enters a larger market.
